 PORT ROYAL SPICE 

 A sweet and earthy start with a slow attack of heat that creeps up in the end. Truly, a taste that keeps you coming back for it's unique flavor experience. The flavor is as unique as the history of Port Royal and indigenous to the area.

In 1655, English forces attacked Spanish Jamaica and took it with ease. For a few years after, the Spanish continued attempts to recapture the area. In response to these attempts, buccaneers were invited by the English Governor of Jamaica to settle in to protect the new colony and set up base.  These "state-sponsored privateers" would plunder the surrounding Spanish colonies on behalf of the king and Port Royal actually became one of the richest places in the world. It was the home and paradise to the true pirates of the Caribbean.

90% of the world's cinnamon comes from Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon) and the oceans around the island were frequented with pirates. Sinbad is probably the most well known pirate to visit the island of Sri Lanka. Although his story is purely fictional, Sri Lanka and it's treacherous shores offers true-life accounts of piracy in the Indian Ocean that is complicated and distinctly different than anywhere else. It's waters were a "free sea" allowing ships to sail and trade without formal permission. This, coupled with being one of the largest trade ports of it's area, equates to the ultimate feeding grounds for a pirate!
